Explorations abstraites : la révélation de l'essence au-delà des apparences

Abstract explorations: the revelation of essence beyond appearances

Born in 1992 in Pau, I developed an interest in art from a very young age. My first crush came at 10 years old when I discovered Les Las Meninas by Velázquez at the Prado, a work that had a great impact on me because of the mirror effect between the infanta and me. I then studied art history at high school before joining the Louvre school in 2010, where I specialized in the history of Italian Renaissance painting. During my master's degree at Paris IV - La Sorbonne, I discovered abstraction and I wrote the first monograph of the Slovenian artist Dimitry Orlac, whose abstract work is in the lineage of Suprematism.

My artistic work focuses on abstract painting, with some portraits and self-portraits. I like to work with geometry and color to create contemplative and mystical works. My favorite materials are canvases and acrylic, which I love for the way they work. I like to create effects by crushing the material when I paint, this allows me to create relief and link colors without necessarily mixing them. In my painting, I use a lot of water to create blurring effects, symbolizing an effervescent ether. The masses of paint, affixed to the canvas, symbolize the body of what exists since matter is the beginning of creation, of life.

I start by making a first background, then I apply my tape according to the desired effect. Finally, I cover the canvas with a new coat of paint. I explore the idea of identity and revelation, like Hera's gesture of anakalypsis, which reveals. In my works, I seek to reveal what is hidden behind appearances, using tape to tear the veil. Identity is the original idea of my painting: we receive a first image, an impression of what we see, but is it really the essence, the truth, the essence of what we contemplate?

In my paintings I only use a restricted range of colors, consisting of shades of red, blue and purple. The colors used are the same for each part of the canvas, creating unity, although each part is different. This idea explores the notion that like is different and vice versa, that one is defined in the many.

Finally, I am convinced that aesthetics is the search for beauty through sensation. For me, beauty is not just an appearance, it is useful for contemplation and elevates the spirit and thoughts. Beauty refers to the sensitive and is evaluated in sensation and emotion. Beauty cannot be calculated and does not meet predefined standards; it is an end in itself.
