Focus on: Hermès

My painting is in search of the original, of the source, as the first manifestation of the phenomenon, of creation, of the moment when it occurs.

Attached to spirituality, and not to religion, I discovered during my research the work of Hermes Trismegistus, also known as the Corpus Hermeticum or Emerald Tablets, whose symbolic interest meets historiographical interest.

Like Homer, Hermes Trismegistus does not exist. His name, highly symbolic, takes the name of the god of the same name, messenger and ferryman. For Iamblichus: “Hermes, who presides over speech is, according to ancient tradition, common to all priests; he is the one who leads to true science; he is one in all. This is why our ancestors attributed all discoveries to him and put their works under the name of Hermes.”

The collection dates from the first century AD, written in Alexandria, and brings together - this is its interest - pagan philosophies (Egyptian and Greek), Jewish thanks to the diaspora active at that time, and Christian which was experiencing its beginnings.

The Corpus Hermeticum is the link between the philosophies of the past and those in the making. In the words of Louis Ménard, the work is the “depository” of ancient civilization on the verge of disappearing. Coming from the Alexandrian civilization of its time, influenced by Egypt, Greece and Judaism, the Corpus Hermeticum is the syncretism of these schools of thought.

In Hermeticism, philosophy is revealed by Intelligence or by the god who is its personification. In the same way that the Word is creative, Intelligence is the principle of all creation., I created a series of three works that delve into the heart of the enigmatic hermetic philosophy embodied by Hermes Trismegistus. These abstract canvases embody my personal interpretation of the mysteries of creation according to the hermetic tradition, revealing an eternal poetry through the symbolism of colors and geometric shapes.

Each of these works is a window onto an invisible world, an invitation to meditate on the concepts of origin, transformation and unity. Through a subtle play of lines, curves and colours, I recompose the hermetic vision of creation. Abstract geometric shapes intertwine, overlap, merge and separate, creating a visual dance that evokes the birth of worlds.

The symbolism of colors is an essential element of this series. Each hue carries within it a profound meaning, reflecting the hermetic palette of spiritual alchemy. Red embodies the divine spirit, blue the celestial soul, yellow illumination, and midnight blue the mystery of primordial darkness.

Through these paintings, I capture the hermetic idea of a continuous creation, of a reality in perpetual transformation. The abstract forms evoke hermetic symbols such as the ouroboros, the serpent that bites its tail, representing the eternal cycle of life and death. The spirals and circles intertwine to signify the unity of all things, recalling the hermetic maxim "All is One".

This series is a visual meditation on the poetry of creation according to Hermes Trismegistus. They invite us to contemplate the mystery of the universe, to explore the essence of the divinity within, and to perceive reality beyond appearances. By giving form to these complex ideas through art, I wish to convey the beauty and depth of Hermetic philosophy through visual expression, thus creating an eternal poetry that evokes creation in all its mystical splendor.
